TOTEM DE LECTURE
LUMIÈRE & LECTURE Collection
_edited.jpg)
The “Totem de Lecture” floor lamp rises like a monolith in solid walnut — an inhabitable sculpture in which function is transformed into pure emotion. More than an object, it is a sensory experience, a still journey through sculpture and light.
Walnut emerged as a natural choice. Sculpted to reveal the interweaving grain, every curve and every edge traces the passage of life. Like a throne carved from a standing tree, it is imposing, robust and protective — a shelter in which to pause beneath the shade of its light. Handwoven wild silk envelops the lampshade with a tactile and visual softness, its irregular texture capturing the light and diffusing it into a gentle, enveloping glow.
Carved into the wood, its niches become sanctuaries for books — the silent companions of our solitude. They invite pause, contemplation and reading. Adjustable through a dimmer, the light becomes an accomplice to these intimate moments, caressing the pages and illuminating the words.
This collection is the result of a sensitive yet rigorous dialogue between the architect’s imagination, the precision of drawing and the authenticity of craftsmanship. In November 2023, at the Salon International du Patrimoine at the Carrousel du Louvre, an encounter with master woodworker Jean-Christophe Robin marked the beginning of this collaboration. The dialogue later continued on rue des Martyrs, in Anne Sokolsky’s workshop, where her expertise brought the finishing touch to Jean-Christophe’s work. From this alchemy between drawing and the synergy of craftsmanship emerged the first pieces of the collection — a manifesto for an architecture of the senses.
“The Soul of a Historic Wood”. This luminous sculpture is crafted from an exceptional piece of solid walnut, sourced from a tree felled in the Dordogne during the historic storm of 1999. Carefully seasoned and preserved for more than 25 years, the wood now reveals remarkable stability and a grain of exceptional depth. Finished with natural oil, its rich fibres are brought to life while preserving the wood’s organic, tactile quality.
